Many of us who live on Kauai spend most of our time near the Sea.
We are looking at the surf or the wind or the weather or watching the sunrise or the sunset but usually at the edge of the Ocean..(we are a small island after all!) I have spend some of my happiest and most challenging times playing in the ocean ..and I am realizing just how important the Sea is not just to my well being but to the health and well being of our planet. I make my living painting the beauty I see around me. I try to do my best to take care of the beach and the land and the sea. Pick up the trash, pick up the cigarettes that unconscious people put out in the sand of this beautiful island like it was their ashtray. Use cloth bags instead of plastic ..ANYTHING but plastic…..we already have a new island (Plastico) floating above Hawaii smothering life in the Sea. Use natural herbicides in yards and Golf Courses. I have watched the reefs here disintegrate over the last few decades..less coral less fish less shells……then of course less perfect waves as the reef breaks down. I’m not writing this to bum anyone out … I just support anyone who looks around them and picks up that plastic bag or butt they see and stops pouring chemicals down their drains and on their lawns..because EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS. Take extreme care of wherever you may live..because truly you live on an island in the middle of the sea (universe) just like me. Thank you for Helping!
